Primary and Secondary Collaboration – The Upcycling Garden

Year 4 students were invited to take part in creating an upcycling garden by Secondary students Ting, Umi, Terrence, and Tim.  The session started with a presentation on why plants are important and the importance of reusing materials for different purposes.  The students were shown some mood boards which provided the students with ideas for different types of Upcycling Gardens, before heading outside to create their own upcycled plant holders.

Year 4 student Tung explained that the secondary students had shown him the importance of recycling objects after using them, and not just throwing them away. Tung planted a chilli plant seed inside a shoe and described the experience as enthralling.

Kate commented that she enjoyed planting the seed and watching it slowly grow.

“I think they were trying to teach us not to waste old things and instead recycle them. We planted seeds in some old things that were used and not needed by the owners. I really enjoyed planting it, it was SO much fun!”

Violet thought the secondary students, Ting, Umi, Terrence, and Tim did a great job telling us how to recycle trash to save the world and plant more plants to make the world better and healthier, and telling us to take care of nature and our environment.
